Book AppointmentWhat Is Laser Eye Surgery?
Laser eye surgery is a group of procedures used to help correct vision issues like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Using laser technology, Dr. Daynes can carefully reshape your cornea to change how light focuses in your eye, leading to clearer vision.
Laser eye surgery is not a permanent alternative to prescription lenses, but it could help reduce your reliance on glasses and contacts.
Book AppointmentTypes of Surgeries We Perform
Dr. Daynes can perform 2 types of refractive surgery: LASIK and PRK.
During your consultation, he can determine which procedure may be suited to your needs based on your vision concerns and eye health.
Dr. Daynes will also walk you through how to prepare for your procedure and what you can expect on the day of your surgery.
LASIK
During a LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) procedure, your doctor will create a small flap from the outermost layer of your cornea to access the underlying tissue. He will then reshape the tissue with a laser to correct your vision.
At the end of the procedure, the flap is placed in its original position to heal.
PRK
Dr. Daynes may recommend PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) surgery if you have dry eye or thin corneas but still want laser vision correction.
During PRK surgery, your doctor will remove the outermost layer of your cornea to access the underlying tissue. Dr. Daynes will reshape this tissue using laser technology to help correct your vision.
The outer layer of your cornea heals over a few weeks.
Types of Surgeries We Perform
Before recommending laser eye surgery, we’ll have you come in for a consultation. During a consultation, Dr. Daynes can examine your eyes, consider your lifestyle, and discuss your eye care needs before determining if laser eye surgery could be suitable for you.
Once we determine you’re a candidate, we’ll provide details on what to expect before, during, and after your procedure. We’ll then help co-manage your recovery to support a desirable outcome.
Before Your Procedure
You can prepare for your surgery by:
- Drinking plenty of water
- Taking vitamin C and fish oil supplements
- Halting contact lens wear for a few days
- Removing perfumes, lotions, and makeup a day before surgery
- Setting up transportation home
- Booking a few days off work/school to heal
After Your Procedure
For a few days following your surgery, you might experience:
- Dry eye
- Irritation
- Wateriness
- Blurry vision
- Glare & halos
- Light sensitivity
Is Laser Eye Surgery Right for You?
At Daynes Eye & Lasik, we require you to be at least 21 years old before we can recommend laser eye surgery.
Although laser eye surgery can help many people achieve clear vision, we might not recommend it if you have:
- An unstable prescription
- A condition that affects healing
- An eye disease
- A history of eye infections
- Systemic disease like diabetes
Eye conditions like dry eye and keratoconus may also affect your candidacy. However, PRK eye surgery could still be an option, depending on your symptoms.
